2025 Blaugust 01 - Intro To Reality

What is Blaugust

Blaugust is the brainchild of Belghast of Tales of the Aggronaut, a month-long event that takes place each August which focuses on blogging primarily but has expanded to include other forms of serialised content over the last several years. The goal is to encourage creators to post more and join in a shared community.

The core challenge is to make 31 posts in the 31 days of August. Awards are given based on the number of posts you make, and to encourage people you get an award for just showing up. 😜

This is my first attempt, may your deity of choice have mercy on my source code. 👼

Awards

• Newbie Blogger Award – Signing up Check ✅
• Bronze Award – Make at least 5 posts.
• Silver Award – Make at least 15 posts.
• Gold Award – Make at least 25 posts.
• Rainbow Diamond Award – Beat the original challenge and post 31 times or more.

I'm aiming for Silver but expecting Bronze 😇

Anyway I'm lead to believe that we're supposed to start with introductions...

Who am I

• My name is Dave(he/him), and I'm a closet blogger.
• I can only confirm one person reads what I write (björn thanks dude🫡).
• I've been blogging in some form or another since the mid '90s back then we just called it a daily diary.
• I like using emojis, what of it (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ Yes I am old.
• I think the Red Panda is the best animal, but I'm not allowed to have one, so I love dogs instead.
• Who am I trying to kid? Dogs are freakin' AWESOME 🐶
• I work as a software engineer, for an international company.
• My views are my own, not that of an AI.
• I run Linux as my only Operating System of choice.
• I self host a few things.
• I have a slight addiction to reading RSS feeds.
• I've been trying to write my own Static Site Generator(SSG) for a few months.

Goals for the month

My main goal this month is to switch to my new SSG, then add new features to it throughout the month, sort of developing in the open as is the IndieWeb way.

I'm also planning to get back to doing my week notes properly as a way to keep the post count up but also a summery of how the challenge is going.

In case you're wondering it was björn who convinced me not to delete the whole site and start again. 😶‍🌫️
