Death to 2025
Published -π Notes
This year has had, like all good manic depressives, its ups and its downs. We lost my mum, and I've had a few bouts of depression and I've let the SAD get to me a little this winter. But on the up side I got a new computer, I finished the first version of myPOSSE, I got back into writing games, and working on my game engine with Monogame.
Our plan for next year is that once my parents estate gets sorted out and we know what I've been left with. We're going to buy a house and start putting things in place for me to retire. Conservatively I think we might be getting close to being ready in about 15 years.
For now I'm just taking things one day at a time.
π° Blog posts - 53
This year I posted more than I have ever done before. Mostly because of the weekly notes which started to feel a bit stale by the end of the year. I might keep them up but I might also change up the format, we'll have to see. But all in all I am mostly happy with the way the site has gone.
The vast majority of new people reading this sorry excuse for a blog, I picked up during Blaugust. So a heartfelt Hello, welcome, and thank you to all of you that stuck around to the end of the year.
I'm going to keep posting, and as always, most delays are because I had a new idea, that I either made work or gave up on. Trying something new is always fun.
πΈοΈ Web Development
I moved my server to a new host this year and wrote a new SSG, I've been working on an API for a few Indie-Web features. And as always I've had more than a few ideas for things I want to write.
πΉοΈ Game Development
SystemX is coming along slowly but surely, and my goodness it's fun. Still nothing to show for it yet though, but I'm having a blast when I can get myself to open the editor.
π Reading - 9
Probably the closest thing I had to a resolution this year was read more, I don't think I did too badly
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Harry Potter and the goblet of fire (In Progress)
I needed something simple and easy to read so I could get back into the habit of reading again and as per my Disclaimer I got mine from a local charity shop. The only problem now is I feel I need to finish the series. I'm currently on book 4.
- Unseen Academicals (Discworld Novel 37)
I had tried to start reading this back last year but for one reason or another I just stopped. This time though it was the third book for the year and I was in a better place to give it the attention it deserved. Yet another fantastic chapter in the Discworld series.
- The Murderbot Diaries: All Systems Red
- The Murderbot Diaries: Artificial Condition
- The Murderbot Diaries: Rogue Protocol
- The Murderbot Diaries: Exit Strategy
- The Murderbot Diaries: Fugitive Telemetry
- The Murderbot Diaries: System Collapse(In Progress)
It was my 50th birthday this year and on the run up to my actual birthday my Wife decided to give me 50 gifts over 50 days and one of them was The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 1. To be honest I wanted to get it in the new year anyway, but I was a little worried because I've not really tried sci-fi books before so I wasn't sure I'd like it. I needn't have worried It was amazing I couldn't put it down and read both stories in 48 hours which is unheard of for me even if they are really short.
After seeing how fast I got through the Volume 1 the Wife went and got Volume 2 & 3 as soon as she could and gave me volume 2 on my Birthday. I finished it in less than 24 hours. And volume 3 for Christmas Day. I Love Murderbot, but I'm having a slight problem finding a copy of Network Effect that's not from Amazon.
