June Notes 2025, I'm Still here, Sort of...
Published -How it started
In June I missed the first week notes in a while since I took that month off at the start of the year, I think I felt a little guilty. I made a plan to try for thirty posts in thirty days. I managed to write four:-
- I needed a new project - I was looking at writing a log cutter to try and make a stats dashboard for the site.
- The indie-web - I think it was supposed to be more of a rant on how it's hard to find things on the Indie-web without the big tech. And how big tech just wants to keep you where they are in control.
- A-Z Challenge: Autonomy - I had an idea to try an "A-Z Indie Web & Blogging Glossary". A series of posts looking at terms and what they mean. I think this one came out more as a rant about how '90 design aesthetics are bad, but that wasn't what I was going for.
- View your Fail2Ban victims - This was just a quick script I knocked up to see if anyone was getting picked up by my Fail2Ban filters.
So what happened
I'm not entirely sure I was fine until someone in work made yet another joke about the welsh that I had to laugh off as nothing unusual. But for some reason I went into a bit of a depressive thought spiral. I just kept feeling worse and didn't want to do anything for about two and a bit weeks. I just vegged.
I did manage to do a few things, more because I knew I had to do something.
π Notes
I had a great email exchange with Chris Ferdinandi around "whatβs the biggest thing youβre looking for in a UI library or design system?" Started with my background in web development, that work are pushing for us to use React, and how I haven't done much with CSS in years. He did make me realise I didn't need to do an SCSS build system in myPOSSE, which saved me a lot of time.
ποΈ Films & πΊ TV
I've watched a shed load of films and TV, far too much to list here.
π Reading
I finally managed to finish "Philosophers stone" and started "Chamber of secrets".
π§ Music
Not been listening to much music at all.
π° myPOSSE
I have finished the basic build system for myPOSSE. In that it now outputs the pages for posts and does pagination for the index page, the feeds and the sitemap file are working.
I'm mostly working on the front-end now. I was going to use Pico CSS but I had trouble getting it to do what I wanted and I get confused easily. Now I'm working with Kelp UI by Chris and it's proving to be much easier to get it to do what I want.
I do think I need to read up on how designers actually do their job, rather than second guessing like the code monkey I am.
I have a few more things to iron out but I might deploy the first version this week sometime.
Word of warning to the few people reading this on RSS... "New site, New perma links" you're gonna get a big list of "new" posts, I am sorry.π
Make it work, then think about making it look pretty and Stay Lucky. π§βπ¨
