Week Notes 2025-21
Published -📓 Notes
I've come to realise that I've started coding for fun again, this project has reminded me what I used to be like. I used to look forward to finishing my day job so that I could get back to my own work, though you really can't call it work if you're not getting paid for it.
Anyway, I've been working a lot on:-

I've managed to get a lot of the new design done. Right now I have the template engine in place and I'm able to programmatically add HTML nodes, so adding details like OpenGraph is simpler. I still need to add in a loop for some legacy HUGO snippets.
The template engine has allowed me to explore the option of making the front page posts a little bit better. Like for the Instagram posts I could make them do a mini flip book on the main page if there is more than one image. And when you click them, rather than a new page, have them display the larger version in model dialog.
Thanks to Robb Knights Web Toolkit I found realfavicongenerator.net and got the basis for the favicon part. I had a problem making an SVG from a PNG. But their converter did a super job with my PNG.
Also in the toolkit I found a link to Picco CSS which I'm thinking of using for the new redesign.
A minimalist and lightweight starter kit that prioritises semantic syntax, making every HTML element responsive and elegant by default.
Also it automatically supports Light/Dark themes. My main problem here is that I haven't done any real front-end development work in so long that building a design from scratch using semantic layouts is taking a little while to get my head around.
I have just learned how to get CSS grid to work properly. 🤓
I've got the deploy to server almost finished. The new design is all config based. You can set up multiple deploy targets. There's going to be a localhost target included so you can do rapid template/content testing. Supported transports are currently, SSH and local file copy. But I could add FTP at a later date if I needed it.
📚 Reading
First encounter with "Fluffy", and Wood has explained Quidditch.
🎞️ Films
- A Working Man (2025)
Fun little action film, though I did think it, seemed like they kept the kidnapped girl for an awfully long time it felt like the whole film was played out over a week. - The Wild Robot (2024)
I've been waiting to see this for ages, I do hope they get to do the other books in the series. - Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025)
I really liked the first three when they came out, but didn't know they were a part of a long running series. By the looks of it they could just keep making them, which would be nice.
📺 TV
Not made much time for TV again this week though we did watch QI - A, B & started C
🎧 Music
A Rozzum always completes its task, Stay Lucky.
